Lawrence Welk -- Swings

Lawrence Welk

Swings

Ranwood

When most people think of Lawrence Welk they think ''corny music,'' but don't let that image fool you. Lawrence Welk was a very versatile performer. He could swing as well as the next person, able to lead his orchestra through ''I Love You Truly'' and the ''King Porter Stomp'' with equal vervasity. This collection of songs highlights that lesser-known side of Lawrence Welk. Swing features some of the best of Welk's swing numbers down through the years. Don't expect a lot of improvisation. Welk plays it strictly by the book, but ''by the book'' is very acceptable when it's played well, and it is -- quite well.

An excellent collection of Lawrence Welk swing tunes.
