Revivendo

Before she came to America Carmen Miranda was a big star in Brazil. Her recordings were some of the most popular in that country during the 1930s. RCA Victor considered her their ''Golden Girl.'' This CD, part of a series of reissues dedicated to Carmen Miranda's Brazilian recordings, contains a selection of some her most popular work for RCA Victor during that period, from 1930 to 1935. Consisting of sambas and marchas, this collection not only highlights Carmen's extraordinary work it also illustrates Brazilian music during its golden age. Alive and with a great deal of passion, Carmen gives it her all on these 21 songs. She is much more exciting here than on most of her American recordings. Here she isn't acting; she's just singing the music that she loves.

This is an excellent CD. Most people remember Carmen Miranda from her work in Hollywood, but to truly appreciate her one must hear her on such songs as ''Prá Vocé Gostar De Mim,'' ''Iaiá, Ioió'' and ''Lua Amiga.'' This is a great way to learn more about one of the century's greatest artists.
