Great Ladies of Song: Spotlight on Peggy Lee

Capitol

The recordings on this CD come from Peggy Lee's later period at Capitol Records and range from 1957 to 1965. Her return to Capitol marks a jazzier and more mature Peggy and features some of the best work of her career, including ''Fever,'' her most famous number. Also included on this CD are four ballads conducted by Frank Sinatra. ''The Folks Who Live on the Hill,'' a personal favorite of Peggy's, is arguably the best recording of that song ever. Two other numbers are conducted by the legendary Benny Carter, ''The Best Is Yet to Come'' and ''I've Got the World on a String,'' and feature his trademark bold and brassy arrangements. Also included is a previously unreleased recording of ''Deep Purple'' with Quincy Jones, and of note is the fun ''I'm Just Wild about Harry.'' Of course, every song is excellent. It's Peggy Lee, what else could it be?
