The Moon of Manakoora is a great collection of Dorothy Lamour's early recordings, spanning from 1937 to 1943. Most of the songs on this CD were featured in her films, but the tracks assembled here are studio versions. Dorothy's voice was best-suited for romantic ballads, and that's what you get. She only strays into livelier territory twice, on ''Panamania'' and ''It Had to Be You.'' Stand-out numbers include ''You Took the Words Right Out of My Heart,'' ''That Sentimental Sandwich,'' ''I'm All A-Tremble over You'' and ''The Moon and the Willow Tree.'' Dorothy was associated with island films, films in which she could wear her trademark sarong, and there are plenty of island-themed tunes in this collection. Featured are two excellent Hawaiian numbers, ''The One Rose That's Left in My Heart'' and ''The Moon of Manakoora,'' which became her theme song. All in all, a great CD.
