Muzzy Marcellino

Bandleader Muzzy Marcellino studied both violin and guitar while growing up in his hometown of San Francisco. Between 1932 and 1938 he worked with several outfits, including the Lofner-Harris Orchestra and Ted Fio Rito's group, where he was often heard on vocals.

In 1938 he formed his own orchestra, which debuted at Topsy's Restaurant in San Francisco and featured a young Gloria DeHaven on vocals. He spent the next ten years playing West Coast venues, finally disbanding his group in 1948. He then settled in Los Angeles, where he continued playing with small combos.

From 1950 through 1969 Marcellino was musical director for Art Linkletter's various television programs. He was also an accomplished whistler. His whistling was featured in many advertisements and movies and on several recordings. Muzzy Marcellino died in 1997.
