Al Katz and his Kittens was one of the most popular jazz bands on the Chicago scene during the late 1920s and early 1930s. Originally organized in Kentucky, the group was best known for its many novelty tunes. The Kittens also toured the Midwest and the East Coast and, like many of the era, appeared under several different names and recorded for a variety of labels, including Columbia, Gennet and RCA Victor. Katz remained active as a bandleader through the late 1940s.
