Sammy Gallop

Lyricist Sammy Gallop was most active in the 1940s and 1950s. He wrote many memorable songs, including ''Shoo Fly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy,'' made famous by Stan Kenton and June Christy, ''Elmer's Tune,'' which was a big hit for Glenn Miller, and ''Wake the Town and Tell the People.'' Gallop also co-wrote the famous number ''Holiday for Strings.''
