Alex Bartha led Atlantic City's hottest band in the mid-1930s. Featuring famed trumpeter Ziggy Elman, the local group drew crowds that rivaled big name outfits. Though best remembered as the house band at the Steel Pier the orchestra toured regionally and was variously known as Alex Bartha and the Hotel Traymore Orchestra, Alex Bartha and His Atlantic City Orchestra, and Roane's Pennsylvanians. Bartha faded into obscurity when Benny Goodman hired away Elman in 1936.
