A native of Syracuse, New York, bass player Hughie Barrett worked around New York City and with the Dave Rubinoff Orchestra before forming his own band, which was active during the 1930s. Barrett also wrote the lyrics to the Jimmy Van Heusen song ''Argentina Skies'' in 1938.
